Barbara Smith
Singer-Songwriter
In my teenage years, I started to use imagery in songwriting to express myself. Not all of my lyrics are autobiographical--some are things I personally experienced, others are things happening in the world around me. My thoughts, ideas, passions and questions, that seemed to have no place to go, found their way into songs. That artsy release of painting with words greatly appealed to me. There is always a next song.
All, but one, of the songs on LITTLE CRACKS OF ICE were written and recorded in the Fall of 2024. They are all live recordings of just me and my guitar in my living room, recorded on my iPhone. I am very grateful to Kenny DesChamp who added band tracks of various instruments to three songs, and to Barry Haggarty who mastered all of the songs.
The EP had to start with the song KEVAN, my Soul Mate. SO LONG MARY ANN is a hymn that honours the late, great Mary Ann Rich who passed in December. The vibe of the EP switches up for the last two songs with HER TORTURED SOUL and BEYOND THE GRAVES being the finale. Making the videos is the final touch
There is just something about making music that completes me. The final step is for the songs to find listeners, like you.
